Frequently Asked Questions
As questions come in from our clients, we will continue to answer them. Please check back with us for the most up-to-date information.
Is this program open to both single dads and single moms?
Absolutely!
How many families are served at POD’s current location?
Only 10, but we are moving to a new location at Sharpstown Baptist Church in Winter 2024 which will allow us to serve 35 families.
What if I have more than 1 child between the ages of 6 weeks and 3 years old? Can I still participate in Project One Day?
Yes, but you would need to volunteer one full day a week for each child. Given participants must also work at least 25 hours a week, this would make participation more challenging (but not impossible). We do have parents that do this.
Must I be working or in school to participate?
Yes. Proof of employment or enrollment in school is required.
Do you provide meals for the children during the day?
Yes, we provide 2 nutritious meals a day plus healthy snacks for all participating children.
What if I do not have low-income, may I still participate?
Unfortunately, no. Project One Day is exclusively for families with low-income who are working.
How long is the training? Is there childcare?
The training takes 30 classroom hours and is conducted by video on-site. Usually parents are able to complete it within 2 weeks. We offer childcare while you complete the training.
Other than training, are there any other requirements?
Yes. Applicants must also submit to a background check and be willing to undergo random drug testing. Also, all participating children must be up to date on vaccines and have a participation waiver completed by their healthcare provider.
Do you plan on having more locations?
Yes! Currently we are working on an expansion at Sharpstown Baptist Church. Our hope is to have locations in churches all throughout Houston. God has been so good to provide for us already! We are hopeful!
